Reaching Displaced Communities with Dignity and Care (Myawaddy and Kawkareik)

Amid ongoing humanitarian challenges and the compounding impacts of natural disasters, conflict, and displacement, Braveheart Foundation continues to reach communities who have been forced to leave their homes and seek safety elsewhere.

Despite significant challenges throughout the journey, our latest round of humanitarian assistance has successfully reached 2,185 displaced households across Myawaddy and Kawkareik Townships.

A total of 520 households in Myawaddy Township and 1,665 households in Kawkareik Township received MMK 285,000 per household in cash assistance. This support was designed to provide families with greater flexibility to address their most immediate and pressing needs during a period of heightened uncertainty.

Supporting Families to Meet Their Immediate Needs

For displaced families, even basic household necessities can become difficult to access during times of crisis. The cash assistance enabled families to prioritize and purchase essential items according to their individual circumstances and needs.

Families reported using the assistance for essential food items such as rice and cooking oil, as well as other necessary household expenses. The flexibility of cash assistance allows families to make decisions based on their own priorities, circumstances, and available resources.

For Braveheart Foundation, this is an important part of ensuring that humanitarian assistance remains relevant, dignified, and responsive to the needs of affected communities.

Assistance Beyond Distribution

At Braveheart Foundation, humanitarian assistance is not limited to the distribution of resources.

Across our response activities, we place particular emphasis on safeguarding the safety, dignity, and rights of affected communities. Each distribution activity therefore incorporates key protection and accountability measures to help ensure that assistance reaches people in a safe and respectful manner.

As part of these efforts, Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) awareness is integrated into our humanitarian response activities. Communities are provided with information to better understand PSEA and the channels available to them should they have concerns or experience inappropriate conduct.

We also establish and promote Community Feedback Mechanisms (CFM) to ensure that affected people have accessible channels through which they can safely share their concerns, provide feedback, or raise complaints regarding humanitarian assistance and services.

Listening to communities is an essential part of our approach. Feedback received through these mechanisms helps us better understand the experiences of affected people and identify areas where our programmes and assistance can be improved.
