What are the Days of Activism Campaign?
The 16 Days of Activism is a global campaign against gender-based violence. It begins on November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and concludes on December 10th, which is Human Rights Day. During these 16 days, individuals and organizations worldwide unite in a shared effort to end gender-based violence women and girls in all its forms.
Globally, one in three women experiences gender-based violence at least once in her lifetime. This violence happens not only in private settings such as homes but also in schools, workplaces, and public spaces. Perpetrators are often family members, acquaintances, or close connections. Violence against women is a grave violation of human rights.
The 16 Days of Activism encourages participants to take action within their communities, raising awareness about gender-based violence. Activities include:
• Sharing knowledge and resources about the issue.
• Supporting survivors of violence.
• Organizing and participating in social media campaigns.
• Hosting art exhibitions and performances to educate about gender-based violence.
• Conducting awareness sessions for students and youth in schools about this critical issue.
Although the campaign lasts for 16 days, the fight against violence does not end when the campaign concludes. Gender-based violence continues to persist in various forms across the world. It is crucial for justice advocates to consistently work to prevent and address these acts of violence. Together, we can strive to create a world where women live free from fear and thrive in a safe and equitable environment.
